1. What? – know exactly what you’re looking for. You may have taken your car for a service and the garage has told you what car parts you need. You may be a good mechanic, and know from experience the car parts needed to mend your vehicle. You may have to do a bit of research before you find out what you need to buy. Searching for car parts is much easier if you know the name of the item you want.

 

2. How much? – set a budget for the car parts you need. Whilst buying from established car breakers can save you money, and certainly won’t be as expensive as buying brand new, you’ll still need to know how much you can afford to spend. Don’t forget that you’ll need to include a delivery cost, and there may also be some fitting to pay for – particularly if the car parts you’re looking for need professional mechanics to handle the actual repair. Knowing what you can afford makes it easier to decide between one car part and another.

 

3. Guaranteed? – if you buy new car parts, they come with a guarantee. Make sure that your used car parts are also covered in some way. This gives you the peace of mind you need when it comes to buying second-hand. A 30, 60 or 90 day guarantee gives you time to receive and fit the part, and to test it out. If you find that something is wrong, you can send the part back and get a refund or another part, depending on how the guarantee works.
